Registrations now open for the JobMaker Hiring Credit

Eligible employers can now register for the JobMaker scheme to receive a subsidy for eligible young workers.

The JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme was created by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) as an incentive for employers to hire young workers aged between 16 and 35.

Eligible employers can receive a subsidy for each eligible additional employee hired between October 7, 2020 and October 6, 2021.

Information about JobMaker payments and eligibility

Eligible employers may receive payments of up to $200 per week for each eligible additional employee aged 16 to 29 (inclusive), and $100 per week for each eligible additional employee aged 30 to 35 (inclusive).

An eligible employee’s age will be based on the date they commenced employment with the employer.

Eligible employers can claim payments for eligible additional employees for up to 12 months from their employment start date.

The maximum amount that eligible employers can claim is $10,400 per additional employee hired.

The ATO has provided a payment estimator to help employers calculate the payment they may receive from the scheme, which can be accessed here.

Employers cannot claim JobKeeper and the JobMaker Hiring Credit at the same time.

How to register for the JobMaker scheme

Registrations for the JobMaker scheme are now open, and payments can be claimed in arrears from the ATO from February 2, 2021.

To register for JobMaker, employers must provide the ATO with their baseline headcount, baseline payroll amount, and contact details.

More information on the registration process can be found here.
